History

A Traditional pub

THE JERSEY LILY

The Pub is named after Lily Langtry, born Emilie Charlotte Le Breton (October 13, 1853 – February 12, 1929), was celebrated as a young woman of beauty and charm, who later established a reputation as an actress and producer. Her looks and personality attracted interest, commentary, and invitations from artists and society hostesses – her pictures can be spotted around the pub hanging from the walls.

BLACKBOY HILL

The upper part of the road where you find The Jersey Lily is commonly known as Blackboy Hill, named after the Black Boy Inn which stood on the hill until 1874. “Black Boy” was a common name for pubs after the Restoration. Charles II was commonly known as “the black boy” due to his black hair and now the area is a fantastic place to spend time on a night out or a quiet drink after work.

WICKWAR WESSEX BREWING CO: THE HOME OF ARTISAN BREWING

It all began in 1860 in the Cotswold village of Wickwar, surrounded by the rolling Wessex countryside. The purity of the locally sourced Cotswold water was impossible to resist, perfect for brewing traditional ale that is both satisfying and easy to drink.

As the brewery grew, so did its reputation and today, although the world has changed around us, our methods have stayed the same. Because once you hit upon a winning formula, well, if it ain’t broke…

Visiting our pub will fill you with warmth and put you in food heaven
